Blake & Krissy Got Hitched!

Just got back from a short but very sweet trip home. I flew in Friday night and got to spend some time with the fam, talking until till the wee hours of the morning. Saturday I went to help Blake and Krissy celebrate their wedding day. It was so much fun! I got to see a lot of friends and roommates from college that I haven't seen in YEARS! I am so glad I got to go... congrats again Blake and Krissy! Sunday I met some high school besties at Panera for some much needed catching up, then took a flight back to Boston that night. I wasn't kidding when I said short! That's okay though... I truly cherish every minute I get back at home. Here are some pics from my favorite moments at the wedding:

Bear Brook State Park

We squeezed in yet another camping trip this season before things got too busy with school and the weather got too cold. This weekend we went to Bear Brook State Park in New Hampshire. It is only about an hour north of us. We drove up there after work, with a quick stop off at Target on the way because I forgot to pack the pillows! Oops! Clearly we don’t rough it too much if we can’t go a weekend without nice fluffy pillows. =)

As usual, we arrived to the campsite after dark, so it was my turn to set the tent up in the dark this time. Nothing me and my headlamp can’t handle! We got the campfire going and roasted some turkey cheddarwursts over the fire. Along with marshmallows, these are a camping staple! We had a low key night of relaxing by the fire, just the two of us. Adam bought some “magical fire dust” when we got the firewood and sprinkled that into the mix. It turned the flames all sorts of crazy colors – green, blue, purple – I tried to get a good picture of it. It was actually really cool.

Saturday Adam woke up early to do some fishing from the shore of one of the ponds. The state park had 3 ponds near the campsites. I should mention a little bit about our campsite… It was huge and outlined with big logs and boulders. A forest of pines kept it pretty secluded and one of the ponds was literally 50 yards from our site. It was awesome! After getting skunked in the morning, Adam came back and cooked breakfast while Kenzie and I slept in. After breakfast, we took Kenzie for a long walk around two of the ponds taking plenty of breaks for Kenzie to go for a swim. She was loving it… She hadn’t gotten to swim in weeks!

We got back to the campsite and played a few games of Beersbee. That’s right, we FINALLY got Beersbee up and going. It basically consists of two poles with a beer bottle on top of each pole. Each team stands at one pole and throws a Frisbee at the other pole in an attempt to knock down the beer bottle. The team at the other end has to catch the Frisbee (and the beer bottle if it’s knocked down). It was quite challenging with only two people, but it was fun!

Then we made lunch and went to go for a hike to the top of Catamount Mountain. The hike was about 2 miles round trip and pretty disappointing. I think we have been so spoiled with hiking lately, that this one seemed like a major letdown. There wasn’t much of a view from the top and the hike itself wasn’t very challenging. One cool thing about the hike however, was the 80 year Red Pines that towered high above the trail.

After our hike, we drove around to check out the area. Somehow or another, we ended up in Manchester to buy steak tips, which seem to be another camping staple. When we got back we rented a canoe to take out on the pond so Adam could give fishing another try. I was the designated rower in the back, while Adam casted away up front. He wasn’t having much luck with any of his lures, until just a few minutes before sundown - when we had to return the boat - he got a nibble. His very next cast he finally caught something. It was about a 12-inch bass… better than nothing! He threw it back seeing as we had steak tips for dinner (and he doesn’t eat fish!).

We grilled up the tips, cooked corn over the fire, and had a few salads for dinner. Afterwards, we played a few more games of Beersbee… in the dark! Even more fun! Our Frisbee lights up and we put glow sticks in the beer bottles. We can’t wait to play some more of this! Once quiet hours started, we had to do some work to burn up all of our firewood. We had quite the raging fire going for a while. Kenzie tuckered out and retired to bed far before the pile of wood was gone. After the fire died down a bit, we made some s’mores and called it a night.

The next morning was cloudy and wet. We got up right away and started packing before everything got too muddy. Adam was hoping to get in some more fishing, but it just didn’t work out. Maybe we will have to take a day trip to a lake some other weekend before the season is over. Plus, this way we actaully had time to do some laundry and get some groceries before the work week starts up again. All in all it was a good weekend.
